Get Authentic with Marques Ogden- KC Chipwaddia

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

KC is convinced deep to his core that the creation of Athlete Foundry was 20 years in the making, forged through his NASA and U.S. Navy life-changing events, challenges, and experiences, each uniquely preparing him to discover his life's true purpose ― to improve the odds and inspire others to seek and achieve their dreams by crushing inequities ― starting with student athletes. Before starting Athlete Foundry, KC has been privileged to serve our great Nation in two capacities, 20 years as a senior human space flight engineer at NASA Johnson Space Center, supporting over 50 Space Shuttle missions, including the Space Shuttle Columbia accident investigation, with his last post serving as the manager of the Space Shuttle astronaut launch & entry suit and crew escape system; and 20+ years, active & reserve combined, in our United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, including deployments to Iraq looking for our missing-in-action, and Afghanistan with Naval Special Warfare.

During this amazing interview, KC sits down with Marques to talk about his brand Athlete Foundry, which is a platform that helps high school athletes that want to become collegiate athletes, regardless of their zip code…. Yeah, Hello everyone, welcome to another evelite episode of the Get Authentic with Marcus Show. I'm your host, Marcus Oden and today we're joined by my good friends CEO and founder Athlete Foundry Casey Chipwadia. When we're bring Casie up to the stage, I want to thank one of our amazing sponsors, keep bill Keeper and Associates. Keeper and Associates is all about my good friend Bill Keeper and they are a military a transition consulting company. They help people that are trying to go from military to corporate life because are maybe incorporate life that are struggling to get to the next level and transform before they transition. Again, Bill, thank you so much for sponsoring our podcast. Now bring up to the stage my good friend Casey chi Wala. How you doing today? Casey? Outstanding? Marcus so awesome to be here with you and love every talk every time we get a chance to talk. So do why my friend so Casey? Before we get started, sir, what does the word authentic slash authenticity mean to you? Boy? A lot a lot of things. I think the media thing comes to my mind is is real from the heart? And sincere? Can they ask you a question, Casey, why do you feel some people today are some people today living for that regard, aren't sincere in their approach? What is it? Is it pressure? Is it's...

...iri? Is it trying to keep up with a certain look? What do you think that is? I believe it. Part of it is certainly that people want to protect their persona. They want to present a certain face. Right, we all live life. It's just in human nature. We have we present different faces in the at the office, we have a face in the coffee shop. We have a face that's just who we are, and we present different faces, and we we want to sort of not necessarily hide, but be behind that face. And that does, um take away a little bit of that sincerity. You have to be intentional and be mindful and be self aware because you absolutely can be sincere in every face you put on. M hm. So, case let's talk about athletes Foundry. Tell our listeners on this amazing Elite episode, what is athlete Foundry? What is your mission and what is your purpose? Yeah? Absolutely, uh absolutely comes from the heart. It is authentic, uh and sincere, and that is we are on a on a crusade UH to lift and impact millions of student athletes from across America. And how we do that is by providing them the first of its nation tools software tool online, completely self managed by the parent in the student athlete. We provide them a sixth to twelfth grade comprehensive roadmap that lets them build what we call their most comprehensive atheum medemic resume, which is athletic, human, and academic. And those are the three pillars we define every student athlete into to do a few things increase their odds to be achillegial athlete. There's over university across America with an athletic program. If they've made the commitment, I don't care how how bad they think they might be today. If they've made the commitment to improve themselves and work on themselves with discipline, um and and and commitment, there's a path for them somewhere. And ultimately, underneath the hood of athlete foundry is helping them prepare to be successful in life after sports. That's really what's under the hood of athlete foundry is...

...to be a productive citizen when sports ends. One day, Ladies and gentlemen, how about that a road map? You know, I'm really big on creating a blue brant, a road map, some sort of plan for your life, Casey, you know, let's talk more about that. This sounds like just a phenomenal and it is a phenomenal brand program. What are some things that have been great about this experience? It wasn't of the challenges you've had trying to get this thing going because you're not be together for a few years and you're getting now a lot of great traction, but you've had to face some hurdles and roadblocks along the way. Absolutely. Uh, let's see. If we're talking about roadblocks, that would probably here all night, but I'll share a few of those that Ultimately, I think the key comes down to his culture and what society has trained and made to believe for parents, coaches, right, that all these people that are in this ecosystem, our product is around centered around the parent and the family. That's the center of our universe. And then but like a solar system, there's a bunch of planets that orbit the parent family that are part of that success team that support structure. Coaches, UM, counselors, advisors, mentors, UM teachers, Right, they're all actually part of that success team. UM. But what society has done is to is to train people over six eight decades to think you must do something this way to be successful. And what has done over the past few decades, well documented Marcus in Sports Illustrated other magazines, is the divide between the half and the have nots. It's just wider and wider and wider, and use athletics. If you've got the picket fence, you've got the money, you've got everything you think you need, you think you've got it all, and really, quite frankly, it's our research has found...

...that it doesn't matter whether you have the money or not enough money. Um, this can be achieved by everyone. What we need is a map. Just like today when we drive we we have Google Maps. We go from pointing to point B that helps guide us. No matter how strong we are, we need help. Everyone needs help in life and to do that through this powerful roadmap is critical. So that challenge, the central challenges spread across all those players and ecosystem is this culture that says, oh, wait, what are you doing you No, no, you have to do it this certain way. UM, And I just don't subscribe. I don't buy into that because there's two things in life, Marcus, there's physics based stuff. You can challenge it all day long, you're not gonna win. And there's everything else which is human made and we love to put barriers in front of people, and this is about crushing those barriers. Marcus. M Ladies and gentlemen, let's get crushing the barriers. Great quote by Albert Einstein. If you follow the crowd, you can only go as far as the crowd. If you're strong enough to vent your off on your own, there's no limit to what you can achieve. And that's exactly why I got behind Casey and Athlete Foundry now going on four years, because I only got one scholarship athlete offer at the very end from Howard University, and I went into Howard's Athlete Call of Fame about a week ago and there's only been a hundred and forty six student athletes have done that. It's really big in that regard. So again, that's why I got behind Casey and Athlete FOUNCT because of the mission the mantra. Now, Casey talked to her about about what makes you all different, Like what's the unique selling proposition that makes Athlete Foundry such a disruptor and innovator in the space. So we we everything we do is around looking...

...at what we call the end state. So I founded Athlete Foundry by combining a bunch of different backgrounds that I have, two big ones being my NASA background in human space flight and my Navy background, and how we do things in those two spaces. There are some powerful fundamental ways that we can take away from those and combine it here. And one of those is this simple, sounds simple, hard to execute the power of planning is by looking at the end state. What is our end goal? When do we want to achieve that? And then we say, let's break that down into small, digestible, execute able steps and then reverse planet back months, years, as in our case as back as sixth grade. And what that does is think of the yellow brick road r. If I can tackle a challenge, it's big, but I do it in small bites. Boy, it's easy day for me, month after month, year after year. And guess what in a couple of years I have so far put myself apart from everyone else in the crowd. It's not even funny because I've already been thinking through these very critical things. So that unique think about us is that we look at your end state across the three pillars, which by the way represent uh ten qualities that collegiate coaches highly value in candidates, but they don't see them. They don't get them. Um And just like anything else in life, you have to develop yourself. So that's the one area. The other is we're the only platform that in fact by you executing and documenting capturing your story. Right, we like reading books, You've got to capture your story somehow. You work hard as a kid, you hustle, your your grind it through, you know, don't you You're working to improve yourself. Growth is growth big or small, athletic and non athletic, all the things about you. If you capture that story and you share that with collegiate coaches saying, hey, coach, I may not be the number one or number two player, but...

...you know what, I'm a hard worker and look at the growth I've made. Look at where I came from a couple of years ago. Just like a stock market, what do we like as humans trends? Well, you gotta have the data. This our platform allows you to capture your data, your commitment, your discipline, your story, it's your life story. You share it with colegia coach and say, look at where I've come from. And every college coach Mark we've talked to is said, if they were given that story from every kid, that shows their commitment discipline. What that allows coaches to understand is two key words future potential. I can't conclude a future potential if I don't know your past. That is a key decision game changer that coaches don't have today. In our platform provides that ability for the first time to do ladies and gentle telling the story of where you are to where you're gonna go right, And I feel that's something that a lot of student athletes miss. If you're not telling them the story of how you have evolved, you have progressed, you have gotten better, you have putting the work in, it's not going to help show them how you're committed to the long term process because being an athlete in college it is a long term precedent. And again especially right now with this whole NIL thing, it's also becoming a business. I mean it really is. And so talk about that case, because when we started working together, there was no NIL. Maybe it's in lightness and so I feel even more today than it was eighteen athletes pat can give these parents and opportunity to what get an education go being an athlete in competent, also have a chance to make some money for yourself because now they're paying student athletes in college these NIL deals like you know, forty thousand and fifty thousand, a couple of million dollars. I mean, it's insane. And when we start in case, see that wasn't the case, talk about...

...how ATHOTHECT can help some of these student athletes they're trying to get to college. May be good for college education, but also made it potentially for NIL since that's something that now has become a president in our society. It is, it is, and and it's and it's in its infancy still. You know, we we played closet attention to the the guidance and the compliance and the rules that come out of NT double A and and House. Every state has their own way of applying it, and so it's still in its infancy. But you're absolutely right. You know, the initial out of the gate support is through those that have a strong following, they have a strong awareness and presence on social media. They can capitalize on that. We see that as you mentioned, in a number of schools and universities, and guess what, there's a n of the rest of student athletes that may not be that that top, top, top tier. If you will, can they make money? Absolutely, It's just gonna take a little bit of time. UM. We believe Athlete Foundry is positioned and is positioning itself so that the next couple of years we will we will evolve with that UM and find opportunities to in fact integrate into our platform that is my vision, as well as to integrate ways that our student athletes who are on our platform, how do immediately through a click, begin to leverage the N I L that's we We just have positioned ourselves. We've been very strategic about how we built our platform, and so now we can do these things because of the way that we actually built the software. We can help these kids over time actually capitalize on that. And and so we're we're very excited about what that future holds. Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you got from that segment position yourself right pivoting an Athlete Foundry has done a phenomenal job start out. The vision has always been to help athletes. Right, the values of I Think foundry have never changed...

...athletic, academic, human The values have never changed, but great leaders like Casey are changing or pivoting the vision. Again. The whole picture of helping student athletes has never changed, but we're doing it in a way where we're positioning in the best place to help people get where they want to go. And that's the true art of leadership. Like drinal into right Think, eisenhowerd said, leadership is the art few people can do what you want done because they want to do and that's why the values of athlete foundry aligne It's hugely so Casey talk about for you, what's like, how are you going to continue to move the needle and go where you want to go with athlete foundry and what's on the horizon. Yeah, we are thanks a great questions. There's there's like a thousand things that any great leader wants to do. And I'm not and I'm a I'm a great leader, but I'm always learning and improving and wanting to be better tomorrow than I was today. Um, and I'm constantly asking myself how do we evolve? How do I evolve? As you said, you have to be agile, you have to be nimble, and to be able to be very strategic when those opportunities present itself. So of our focus for actually from a business perspective and a company really is how do you continue, like said, the vision that doesn't change, helping lift student athletes and families from inner city to rural to urban, all across America, lifting them all up, male and female, all genders, UM, which is key to us. Well, we there are many ways to do that UM. And one of the things that we're prioritizing this quarter quarter four of this year is to finish office, to actually build out the rest of my team, my board of advisor team with some key skills that are positioning ourselves for three in the product and and a couple of key things that I'll share with the team we're excited about is actually introducing joining our team will be...

...a very seasoned director of college admissions who's got decades of experience UM at various levels. We're gonna announce him actually very soon here. Why is that important because one of the key things that makes our platform even we're gonna make it even better and more and more comprehensive is we're gonna a great the college application process right into the platform, and so bringing on Director of College Admissions truly gets us a peek behind the curtain and understand the nuances so we can maximize that for our for our users. Were also bringing on an exercise physiology and nutrition expert, particularly about athlete performance improvement and and even beyond that is actually even focused on female athletes. So just another great human being we're bringing on because some things that we're envisioning for next year, it's about serving our our users and our families even better. Ladies and gentleman. What a phenomenal elite interview you with Casey Chiwai, a CEO and founder of athlete Foundry. Casey, how can people get in touch with you? They want to found more by athlete Fountain. We want to sign up? Where can they go to get more information or simply this amazing platform an opportunity? Yeah, excellent, So first and foremost, uh, super easy. Just go to our website athletes Foundry dot com. Um, We're excited about the message of the platform shares. If you've got questions early, please do reach out to our support team at Support at athlete comundary dot com happy to share more about about the platform itself and how is he is super easy to sign up. Any parent can sign up itself. Um, we're actually excited. We're interested to partner with large organizations. So if you're with a club, a travel team, a league, and a school district, we if you look at our website, you'll see we have about almost thirty very very forward leaning and forward thinking leaders that are in school districts and clubs and those that's who we're looking for,...

...those visionaries and we've got we've got some exciting packages that in fact is a it's a no brainer for the partner that we're offering for a limited time. Please do reach out to us and myself if you're interested in partnership. And that's Casey at athlete foundy dot com. So we got a couple of ways to reach us and to to learn about our message and who is on this journey about impacting families fantastic and everybody. I'm actually right now you can't see it. I'm actually sending Casey a potential individual to reach out to. His name is Robert Blaze and he is one of our sponsors with Lux Denver, Robert's sons playing a very high up travel baseball league and that could be a great potential partner for athletes Foundry. So again, this is why we love doing what we're doing because when you have conversations that are authentic, real and jaguinine, this is when things start to open up and you have results of getting achieved. The authentic tip for this amazing elite air view, never ever, ever be afraid to venture out on your own. Amazon didn't look where they are, Tesla didn't look where they are. Athlete Foundry is doing it, and again when we continue to grow our footprint, it's a natural fit for any student athlete, a parent, any club and the organization to join on because there's zero risk and there's a phenomenal reward. Again, we guarantee nothing. All we can guarantee is you come to the table, put the work in, and you put the work in it you can get the results out. That's all we can promise you. But again there's no risk to a high reward. And if I'm a gambler, which you know, I have to play poker, I I liked those odds. So again,...

...everybody, this was a Great Elite episode with Kasey Chikwatia, co and founder of Athlete Foundery, my friend and business partner. This episode was brought to you by Bhil Keeper and associates. You know Marcus on them and you're tuning in. Have a great game.
